HSSA strongly recommends the half-day DUMO (Disclosure of Unanticipated Medical Outcomes) workshop originally developed by the IHC (Institute for Healthcare Communication – website: www.healthcarecomm.org) more than 20 years ago.

This workshop has been presented more than 5,500 times across North America and is clearly the “gold standard” with respect to disclosure (and other kinds of difficult) discussions with patients and families after unexpected harm has occurred during the provision of healthcare services. While some HSSA Advisors are certified DUMO trainers, you can find out about certified trainers in your area by contacting the IHC-Canada office at www.ihcc.ca.

If you would like to discuss having HSSA advisors involved in a DUMO presentation please contact workshops@hssa.ca for more information.
