Sidney Dekker (PhD Ohio State 1996) has a background in psychology and human factors and is currently Professor of Humanities at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. Previously Professor and Director of the Leonardo da Vinci Laboratory for Complexity and Systems Thinking at Lund University, Sweden, he has worked as scientific advisor to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority in Canada and has been Honorary Professor at the Centre of Excellence in Patient Safety at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Apart from Australia, he has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Sweden, the US, England, Singapore, and New Zealand.
Sidney is bestselling author of several books on human error and system safety, including the most recent “Drift into Failure: From hunting broken components to understanding complex systems” (Ashgate, 2011), “Patient Safety: A human factors approach” (CRC Press, 2011) and “Just Culture: Balancing safety and accountability” (Ashgate, 2012, 2nd Ed). He is also a pilot, and has recently been flying the line on the Boeing 737NG out of Copenhagen.
